Melody composed by James Miller in 1791 with direction he could only use the "black keys" on the harpsichord. Lyrics by Robert Burns (1791). The "Bonnie Doon" is a river that flows from Loch Doon to the Firth of Clyde in Ayrshire, Scotland, past Burns' home town of Alloway. The Doon is also mentioned in Burn's poem, "Tam O'Shanter".
